How to Set Up and Use CoolWallet Go
CoolWallet Go is a credit card-sized hardware wallet with no battery and no button. You sign transactions by tapping the card against your phone over NFC. There is nothing to charge, no cable to connect and no Bluetooth. Another way it differs from typical wallets is that the box contains two cards: a main card and a backup card. This guide takes you from unboxing to a working wallet in about 15 minutes.
Before you start
- Both CoolWallet Go cards from the box
- An NFC-capable phone running iOS 15.6 or later (iPhone 6S onward) or Android 7.0 or later
- About 15 minutes somewhere no one can see your screen
- A pen and the recovery phrase card from the box
One rule to remember The recovery phrase is the one thing that gives access to your assets. Neither SIAMBC nor CoolWallet will ever ask to see it, whatever reason is given: warranty claims, identity verification, firmware updates or account recovery. Anyone who asks is a scammer, no exceptions. Never take a screenshot of it or type it into any device.
Unbox and check the contents
The box contains two CoolWallet Go cards and one recovery phrase card. There is no charging dock and no USB cable, because the cards have no battery, so there is nothing to charge.

If the box or cards show signs of being opened, stop Do not set it up and do not send any assets to it. Contact SIAMBC with photos of the box and the seal. CoolWallet boxes leave the factory shrink-wrapped in clear film with a seal sticker. If the film is torn or the sticker has already been peeled, someone has opened the box before you.
Card size 85.6 mm wide, 53.98 mm tall and 0.8 mm thick, and about 3 g per card. That is exactly the size of a credit card, so it fits in the card slot of your wallet as normal.
Why there are two cards
The second card is not a spare in case you lose one. It is part of the backup system. The first card is the main card for everyday use. The second is the backup card, already synced to the same wallet.

If the main card is lost or damaged, you can promote the backup card to main card in the app right away, without typing in the recovery phrase word by word. This is what sets Go apart from typical wallets the most.
Keep the two cards in different places If you keep both cards in the same wallet or bag, the backup system means nothing, because you would lose them together. Keep the main card for daily use and store the backup card somewhere else that is safe, such as at home or in a safe.
Set up the card with the CoolWallet app
- Download the CoolWallet app from the App Store or Google Play
- Tap the card against the back of your phone, then choose Setup My Card
- Set an 8-digit pairing code and confirm it again
- Back up the wallet by choosing how to create the recovery phrase, either in the card or in the app. If you choose to create it in the card, you must tap both the main card and the backup card.
- Done. The wallet is ready to use.
A forgotten 8-digit pairing code cannot be recovered for you This code is the only way to pair the card with a new phone, and no one can recover it for you, not SIAMBC and not CoolBitX, the manufacturer. Write it on paper as soon as you set it, and keep it in a different place from the cards. If it is entered wrong five times in a row, the card is locked permanently.
Choose how to create the recovery phrase
Both methods are equally secure. The difference is where the recovery phrase appears.
| Topic | Create in the card | Create in the app |
|---|---|---|
| Where it is created | Inside the card, never leaves it | On the phone screen |
| Security | Equal | Equal |
| Ease of backup | Easier, no chance of writing it down wrong | You write every word down yourself |
| Best for | Anyone who wants the phrase never to appear on a phone screen | Anyone who wants to see the full words with their own eyes |
CoolWallet recommends creating it in the card, because everything happens inside the card. The recovery phrase never appears on the phone screen and is never sent anywhere, so there is no chance of writing it down wrong or of someone seeing it on the screen. Creating it in the app is also secure: the phrase is shown on the screen once for you to write on paper.
Never take a screenshot of the recovery phrase Screenshots are backed up to the cloud automatically on almost every phone, which is like leaving your key on the internet. Write it only on paper or a steel plate.
Switching to a new phone
You need the 8-digit pairing code you set at the start. Without it, you cannot pair with a new phone at all.
- Install the latest version of the CoolWallet app on the new phone
- Open the app, choose Setup My Card, then choose CoolWallet Go
- Choose Recover, then tap Bind with CoolWallet GO
- Enter the 8-digit pairing code
- Tap the card against the phone when the app tells you to. The wallet is then recovered and paired.
Remember to register the backup card again After recovery, the app only adds BTC (Taproot) and ETH automatically. Other coins have to be added yourself. You also need to register the backup card again under Settings, then Card Settings, then Add Backup Card. Otherwise the backup card cannot be used for recovery on the new phone.
If you forget the pairing code
To be direct:there is no way to recover the pairing code, not through SIAMBC and not through CoolBitX, the manufacturer. That is because this code is the only proof to a new phone that you really own the card, and a self-custody wallet means the user carries this responsibility entirely.
- Your assets are still all on the blockchain. Nothing has disappeared.
- But without both the pairing code and the recovery phrase, you cannot send or manage them from a new phone.
The three things you must keep safe are the 8-digit pairing code, the main card and the backup card
If CoolWallet ever goes out of business
Your assets are on the blockchain, not in the app or the card. Even if the company stops operating, the coins are all still there. For Go in particular, two more things help:
- The recovery phrase is stored permanently in the card's NFC chip, which lasts far longer than paper
- The box already contains two cards, so the backup is built in
- Apps already installed keep working as normal, and CoolWallet's technical documentation is public, so people with technical knowledge can write their own tools to use with the card
How Go differs from Pro
Both models use the same CC EAL6+ certified secure chip and support the same set of coins. What differs is how they connect, how you confirm transactions and the battery.
| Topic | CoolWallet Pro | CoolWallet Go |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Encrypted Bluetooth | NFC tap |
| Power | Built-in battery, needs charging | No battery at all |
| Secure chip | CC EAL6+ | CC EAL6+ |
| Confirming transactions | On the card's e-paper display | In the phone app |
| Setup | Pair over Bluetooth | Set an 8-digit pairing code, then tap over NFC |
| Best for | Anyone who wants to see the details on the card before signing | Anyone who wants simplicity and no charging |
Choose Pro if you want to check the destination address and amount on the card's own display before every signature. Choose Go if you value simplicity: tap and you are done, no charging, and a backup card system built in.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Write down the 8-digit pairing code straight away. If you forget it, no one can recover it for you.
- Five wrong code entries in a row lock the card permanently, not temporarily.
- Keep the two cards in different places, or the backup system means nothing.
- This model has no screen. Check the destination address and amount carefully in the app before you confirm.
- Do not keep the recovery phrase on your phone, whether as a screenshot, a note or a chat message.
Frequently asked questions
Does my phone need to support NFC?
Yes, because Go connects by NFC only. It has no Bluetooth and no cable port. You need iOS 15.6 or later (iPhone 6S onward) or Android 7.0 or later. Computers cannot be used; it works with a phone only.
I tap the card but my phone does not read it
Move the card around to find your phone's NFC antenna. On an iPhone it is near the top edge on the back, and on Android it is in the middle of the back or toward the top, depending on the model. Hold still until the app confirms, and if you use a thick case, take it off first.
With no battery, will the recovery phrase be lost if I do not use it for a long time?
No. The data is stored in a chip that needs no power to keep it. Left untouched for a year, it can still be read. This is unlike models with a battery, which need charging from time to time.
Can I use the backup card in place of the main card?
Yes. You can promote the backup card to main card in the app without entering the recovery phrase. But if you move to a new phone, you still need the 8-digit pairing code.
Which coins are supported?
More than 35 blockchains and over 12,000 coins, including Bitcoin (with Taproot), Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, Cardano, XRP, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, TON, Sui, Aptos, TRON, Dogecoin and more. It supports the ERC-20, BEP-20, TRC-20, SPL and Jetton token standards, plus ERC-721 and ERC-1155 NFTs. If a network is not on the list, you can add it yourself under Custom Networks in the settings.
Can I buy a third card?
For an extra backup card, contact SIAMBC. We look after products and warranty in Thailand.
Will SIAMBC or CoolWallet ask for my recovery phrase?
Neither of them will, ever, for any reason, and no one has any reason to know your recovery phrase. Anyone who asks is a scammer, no exceptions, whether they claim to be from the SIAMBC team, use the CoolWallet name, or say it is for a warranty claim, identity verification, firmware update or account recovery.
Summary
Three things you must not miss with CoolWallet Go: write down the 8-digit pairing code as soon as you set it, keep the two cards in different places, and because this model has no screen, check the destination address and amount in the app every time before you confirm.
If setup does not work or you get stuck, contact SIAMBC directly for help with using the card, warranty and exchanges in Thailand.
