How to Add Coins in the Tangem App
When you have just activated Tangem, the main screen shows only two coins: Bitcoin and Ethereum. Any other coin has to be added yourself. There are two ways to do it and both give the same result, so pick whichever suits you from the tabs below.
Before you start: what you need
- A Tangem card or Tangem ring that has already been set up
- A phone with the Tangem app installed and NFC switched on
- To know which network you will receive the coin on. If you are not sure yet, ask the sender first.
Adding a coin is not buying a coin Adding a coin tells the card to create an address for receiving that coin on the network you choose, and tells the app to show that coin's balance on the main screen. Nothing is bought or sold and no money is taken. The balance stays at zero until someone actually sends you some.
Two ways to do it
The first way goes through the wallet settings and suits popular coins whose name you already know. The second goes through the Market page, which searches more widely and tells you straight away whether Tangem supports that coin.
How to add a coin through Manage tokens
1. Open the app and unlock it
Open the Tangem app and unlock it with Touch ID or Face ID if you have set it up, or tap Scan card or ring and tap the card or ring against the back of your phone.

2. Tap the three dots at the top right
The main screen shows your total balance and the coins you have already added. Under the wallet name it also shows how many cards are in the set. Tap the three dots at the top right to open the settings. The Search through the market field at the bottom is the way into the second method.

3. Choose the wallet you want
The Details screen shows every wallet linked to the app. Tap the name of the wallet you want to add the coin to. If you only have one wallet, tap that one.

4. Open Manage tokens
On the Wallet settings screen, tap Manage tokens, which is on the first line.

5. Search for the coin you want
This screen starts with a list of popular coins. If the coin you want is not on the list, type its full name or ticker into the Search field at the top.

6. Choose the network, then tap Save
One coin is often available on several networks. Tap the arrow next to the coin name to expand the Available networks list, then switch on only the networks you will actually use. When you are done, tap Save at the bottom.

7. Tap the card to save
The app shows the Ready to Scan screen. Hold the card or ring against the back of the phone until it finishes. This is the moment the card actually creates the address for the network you chose. Without the tap, the address is never created.

How to add a coin through the Market page
1. Tap the search field at the bottom of the main screen
The app's main screen has a Search through the market field at the bottom. Tap it or swipe up to open the Market page, which lists coins by rank with prices and charts.

2. Search by name, ticker or contract address
Type the coin's name or ticker, or paste its contract address, then tap the coin that matches. For a small coin that does not show up in the results yet, tap Show tokens under the line saying that coins below a set market value are hidden.

Many names look alike, so check the ticker carefully The screenshot shows how typing a single word brings up several coins with similar names. Match the ticker, every character, with what the sender gave you, or search by contract address instead, which is more accurate because it can never be duplicated.
3. Tap Add to portfolio
On that coin's page, scroll down to My portfolio and tap Add to portfolio. The Market page can find every coin listed on CoinGecko, but that does not mean Tangem supports every one of them.

If it says This asset is not available Tangem does not support that coin yet, so it cannot be added to the wallet. The Add to portfolio button will not appear. This is not a fault in the app.
4. Choose the network, then tap Continue
The Choose networks screen lets you switch on the network you want. If you have several wallets, it first asks which one to add the coin to. The screen states plainly that you must tap the card before the address for the chosen network can be created. Tap Continue, enter your Access Code or confirm with your fingerprint, then tap the card.

Choose the network that matches the sender
This is where most mistakes happen, and it is why you should ask the sender before adding a coin. A coin with the same name is often available on several networks. USDT, for example, exists on Ethereum, on Tron and on other networks too. Each network has its own address, and they cannot be used in place of one another.
If you only switched on one network and the sender sends on another, the coin will not show up in the app. Sometimes it can be recovered, if the network is one Tangem supports and the address uses the same format, but sometimes it is lost for good. So always ask clearly before every transfer.
Three things that must match before you send The coin's ticker, the network used, and the address you copied. For a first transfer with a new coin or network, send a small amount once first, wait until the balance shows in the app, then send the larger amount. The extra fee costs far less than a transfer gone wrong.
What to do after setup
- Go back to the main screen. The coin you just added now appears in the list, with a balance of zero until someone sends you some.
- Tap the coin name to see your receiving address, then copy it or let the sender scan the QR code.
- Check the whole address, every character, before any transfer. Do not just check the first and last characters.
- Coins you no longer use can be hidden from the main screen in Manage tokens. The address itself stays, it does not disappear.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a fee for adding a coin?
No. Adding a coin creates an address on the card and lets the app show the balance. It is not a transaction on the network. Fees only apply when you send coins out.
I added a coin but the balance is still zero. Is that normal?
Yes. Adding a coin is not buying it. The balance only goes up when someone actually sends to your address.
I cannot find the coin I want in Manage tokens
Try searching the Market page instead, which searches more widely. For a small coin, tap Show tokens to see the low market value coins the app hides. If you still cannot find it, search by contract address.
It says This asset is not available. What now?
It means Tangem does not support that coin yet, and there is no way to add it to the wallet. Do not send that coin to an address on a different network, because it will not show up in the app and may not be recoverable.
Why do I have to tap the card every time I save?
Because the key lives in the card's chip. Creating a new address has to be done by the chip, and the app cannot do it for you. It is the same reason someone else cannot use your wallet with the app alone.
Can I switch on several networks at once?
Yes, as many as you like. Each network has its own separate address. Switching on only the ones you actually use keeps the main screen easier to read and lowers the chance of picking the wrong address when you send.
Will SIAMBC or Tangem ask for my Access Code or seed phrase?
Neither of them will, ever, for any reason. No one has any reason to know your Access Code, or your seed phrase if you set up with one. Anyone who asks is a scammer, no exceptions, whether they claim to be from the SIAMBC team, use the Tangem name, or say it is for a warranty claim, identity check, app update or account recovery.
Summary
Three things you must not miss: ask the sender first which network they will use, switch on that exact network before you tap Save, then tap the card until it finishes so the address is actually created. And for a new coin, always send a small test amount first.
