Written in September 2021, at the height of the play-to-earn boom. The SKILL token subsequently fell very sharply from the prices quoted here. The article is kept as written.
Meet CryptoBlades, a stylish battle game between medieval warriors that lets players enjoy the fighting and earn from selling NFT items and the SKILL token.
CryptoBlades is a role-playing style game on a blockchain that can be played in a browser through a website, with no need to download the game to your machine. It runs on Binance Smart Chain and was developed by Riveted Games. The game has players carry out quests and fight enemies, with the SKILL token as the reward, which can also be used to create characters. Players can control their own digital assets in the game in the form of NFTs, and can buy and sell characters and weapons on the marketplace.
Another enjoyable part of this game is that players can forge new weapons to fight with. Beyond that, SKILL tokens can be staked in the game to win more of the same token as a reward.
Starting CryptoBlades with BNB and the SKILL token
Fees in the game use BNB, but buying characters and items uses SKILL. Hiring a starting character in the game costs around 1.2252 SKILL plus 0.001 BNB in gas, and entering a battle costs a fee of 0.0015 BNB. So before playing you should install a crypto wallet in your browser — one that supports BNB, such as MetaMask or Binance Chain Wallet. SKILL can be exchanged on a DEX such as ApeSwap or PancakeSwap.
Players can choose various packages to start the game, of which there are three. Beyond the difference in price, the returns differ too. The entry-level Value Pack is 101 US dollars, giving the player 4 characters and 3 swords per account, and currently returns around 90 US dollars a month, or 1,080 US dollars annually. The two packages above that in price and return are the Standard Package and the Max Packs.
Tricks in CryptoBlades for beating your opponent
The game divides characters and items into elements: fire, earth, lightning and water. Each element resists or is weak against another. For example, fire resists earth and is weak against water; earth resists lightning but is weak against fire; lightning resists water but is weak against earth; and water resists fire but is weak against lightning.
Weapons are graded by stars, from one to five. The more stars, the greater the chance of winning a fight.
The format of CryptoBlades is play-to-earn: you play to be rewarded with the SKILL token, which is used to create items that can then be sold on, or the SKILL itself can be sold for a profit. SKILL has risen in value by 2,816% over the past 30 days, trading at 42.9 dollars a coin as at the time of writing — which makes it an interesting form of crypto investment, offering both a return and a good deal of enjoyment.
