OneKey KeyTag is a pair of titanium plates for storing your recovery phrase. Instead of writing the words on paper, you punch dots into the plate with the tool in the box. Each plate is about a quarter the size of a credit card, fireproof, waterproof, and small enough to carry.

Why metal, not paper

The paper card in your wallet box works, until one fire, one flood or one termite nest. Thailand is humid most of the year, and paper kept for years fades and crumbles on its own. Titanium has none of these problems.

More importantly, if the recovery phrase is lost, the assets in the wallet are lost with it. Nobody can recover them, not us, not anyone.

Punch dots, not letters

Every recovery word comes from the BIP39 standard list of 2,048 words, and each word has its own number. KeyTag records that number instead of the letters. Each row on the plate is one word: look the word up in the printed word list, then punch a dot in the boxes the list marks.

To read it back, add up the numbers of the punched boxes in that row, then look the total up in the list. Do that for every row and you have the full phrase. This is what keeps the plate so small, and a full backup takes only minutes.

Frequently asked questions

My wallet uses a 12-word phrase. Do I need both plates?

No. One plate holds all 12 words. Keep the second as a duplicate stored somewhere else, or use it for another wallet.

If someone picks up the plate, can they read the words?

They see dots, not words. Without the method and the word list, nothing can be read at a glance. But this is not encryption: anyone who knows the method can decode it, so keep the plate as private as you would keep a paper backup.

Can I fix a wrong punch?

No. A punched dot cannot be removed. Mark the dot positions for every word in the guide first, check them against your device once more, then punch.

How is this different from OneKey Lite?

OneKey Lite is an NFC card that stores the recovery phrase encrypted and needs the app and a PIN to read it. KeyTag is solid metal with no chip: no app, no power, and readable years from now with nothing but the word list. Choose Lite for convenience, KeyTag for the most durable backup, or use both together.

Anyone who asks for your recovery phrase is a scammer. No exceptions.
