The CryptoSafe Lite is the simplest way to get your recovery phrase off paper. You mark the words into the plate yourself, and they stay readable for as long as the metal lasts.

How it works

• Holds a full 24-word BIP39 recovery phrase
• You engrave or stamp the letters in yourself — nothing is printed, so nothing can fade
• 86 x 54 x 2.5 mm — credit-card sized, so it fits where a card fits, in a much heavier gauge than the thin plates sold elsewhere

Most people mark only the first four letters of each word. Under BIP39 those four letters identify the word uniquely, so you get the same backup with a quarter of the work and far less chance of a mistake.

Why steel beats paper

Every hardware wallet ships with a paper card for your recovery phrase, and that card is the weakest part of the whole setup. Paper burns, soaks through and fades — and in Thailand's climate, termites treat a sheet in a drawer as food. A backup can be eaten long before you next go looking for it.

Steel removes all of that at once. Fire, flood, humidity and insects stop being your problem.

The plate does not mark itself, so pick the set that includes the tool you want to use:

• Plate + Pen — engrave by hand. No hammer, no noise, easiest to start with
• Plate + Stamp — 27 steel letter punches for deeper, more even characters. You supply a small hammer
• Plate + Stamp + Hammer — the complete stamping kit
• Plate + Stamp + Hammer + Pen — everything

Works with

Any wallet that gives you a BIP39 recovery phrase — which is almost all of them. Ledger Nano S Plus, Nano X, Flex and Stax; Trezor; Tangem; SafePal; OneKey; Keystone; D'CENT; CoolWallet; Blockstream Jade; KeepKey and others. Tangem is seedless by default, so this applies if you have chosen to create or import a seed phrase.

Common questions

Engrave or stamp — which is better?
Stamping gives deeper, more uniform letters and is easier to read years later. Engraving is quieter, needs no hammer and is quicker to start. Both outlast paper by a wide margin.

Can I fix a mistake?
No. Metal cannot be un-marked, so check each letter before you commit. Marking only the first four letters of each word cuts the number of strokes and the risk.

Is this the same as a Cryptosteel?
It does the same job — a metal plate you mark your own phrase into.

Should I make more than one?
Many people keep two in separate places, so a fire or a burglary at one address does not end in a total loss.
