Written in August 2021. Of the games below, F1 Delta Time closed in 2022 when its Formula One licence ended, and the play-to-earn token prices described here fell very sharply during 2022. The article is kept as written.

NFT game tokens on blockchains are moving into the mainstream of the crypto market, with price trends worth watching both among people who enjoy playing games and among investors.

NFTs — non-fungible tokens — are not only surging in the buying and selling of artwork in the blockchain world. The games industry has also started using this technology, which creates an identity that cannot be copied, to give players something special in the games they play, to the point where the prices of the main tokens used in those games have shot up unstoppably. Let us look at which NFT game tokens are worth watching in 2021.

AXS and SLP in Axie Infinity, the hottest monster-raising game

Axie Infinity is a game on Ethereum (ERC-20) focused on letting players breed, train and take pets called Axies into battle against other competitors. Axies count as a kind of NFT and can be bought, sold and exchanged. A player needs three Axies to start competing or carrying out missions in the game, so buying and selling characters requires capital. For anyone without capital or time, the platform's marketplace can be used to find a sponsor or a sponsored player — otherwise known as finding a scholarship — with the proceeds shared as agreed.

The tokens used in the game are AXS, which is the governance token, and SLP, which is the reward for completing missions. Within 30 days the two coins have risen in value by over 1,000% and 134% respectively, as at the time of writing.

REVV from F1 Delta Time, the Formula One racing game on a blockchain

F1 Delta Time is a Formula One racing simulation in which competitors can enter tournaments using digital collections such as cars, parts, tracks, drivers and wheels, produced in limited numbers and with differing abilities in competition.

Each item in the game comes in several grades, from ordinary through to the rarest, and players can buy those items on the marketplace using REVV, the main coin used in the game. Such is the popularity of this racing game that trading volume within it has reached 1 million dollars a week, with as many as 1,000 new accounts joining each week.

RING from Evolution Land, developing land in a virtual world

Evolution Land is a cross-chain virtual business game that lets players buy and sell land, govern their own area, cultivate and develop buildings, and hire other players to carry out activities in their territory. The game has 26 continents, each on a different blockchain.

Players can interact with other players through avatars called Apostles, which can be bought using the game's main coin, RING. Each avatar has different genes and different abilities, such as mining, healing, research and combat.

SAND from The Sandbox, trading virtual land and building your own The Walking Dead game

The Sandbox is a space in a virtual world that lets users create, buy, sell and exchange digital assets in a game format rather like Minecraft, except that each item has a unique identity. The game's main coin, SAND, is used to exchange the various items.

What is interesting is that the game recently released a new feature bringing a title we all know well, The Walking Dead, onto the platform. What stands out about this game from The Sandbox is that players can build games of their own through a toolkit, using characters from the main story, for other players to come and try.

NFT game tokens are in a period of rapid development and are on their way to becoming mainstream. The important thing pushing these token prices up against the market trend is having genuine users within the system — people looking for entertainment without minding which moment is the right one to hold a token in a portfolio for speculation. Those genuine NFT users are what will support the crypto market over the long term.
