ELLIPAL X Card is a cold wallet in card form. It signs transactions with an NFC tap against your phone, has no battery, needs no charging and no cable, is as thin as a credit card and carries in a normal card slot. The private key is held in a secure element certified to CC EAL6+, the same class of chip used in passports and bank cards.

The recovery phrase is generated offline, on the Starter device

The set includes a device called the X Card Starter, an offline unit whose only job is to generate the recovery phrase. The phrase is therefore never created on a phone, on a computer, or on any network. The card itself does not store the recovery phrase; it stores the private keys derived from it.

It can generate a 12, 18 or 24-word phrase, and import an existing 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24-word phrase from a wallet you already use. So if you are already on MetaMask or Trust Wallet, you can move across without transferring coins and without opening a new account.

Security

The private key sits inside the secure element and never leaves it. Transactions are signed inside the chip and only the finished signature comes out. The card has no USB, no Bluetooth and no internet connection.

Access needs the PIN you set during offline activation. After 10 wrong attempts the card destroys its own data, so whoever picks it up cannot take your coins. A passphrase is supported for anyone who wants another layer.

The card has no firmware to update, so there is no update procedure to carry out and nothing to go wrong during one.

Coins and devices supported

More than 10,000 tokens across more than 40 chains, including BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, BNB, ADA and TRX, plus layer 2 networks such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and Polygon. NFTs are supported on Ethereum and Polygon.

It works with the ELLIPAL app on any Android phone with NFC and on iPhone XS or newer, reaches dApps through WalletConnect, and follows the BIP39 and BIP44 standards, so it can be restored into any other wallet that follows the same standards.

Common questions

If I lose the card, can whoever finds it take my coins

Not without the PIN you set, and that PIN cannot be reset once it is chosen. After 10 wrong attempts the card destroys its own data. Your coins remain recoverable from the recovery phrase you wrote down during setup.

Why is there a separate Starter device

So that the recovery phrase is genuinely generated offline. Creating a phrase on a phone or a computer that is connected means the phrase has passed through an online machine. The Starter removes that step entirely.

Which iPhones does it work with

ELLIPAL states iPhone XS or newer, and any Android phone with NFC. Before you buy, check that the phone you use has NFC and that it is switched on.

Does it need charging

No. The card has no battery and draws power from the phone over NFC as you tap, so there is no battery to degrade with age.

How does the X Card differ from the Titan 2.0, and which should I choose

They do different jobs. The Titan 2.0 is an air-gapped device with a 4 inch screen for checking a transaction before signing, which suits the main holdings you keep for the long term. The X Card is an NFC card with no screen of its own, using the phone app to show the detail, which suits carrying and frequent use. Many people use both together.

One rule to remember

Anyone who asks for your recovery phrase is a scammer. No exceptions.
